Listen, when the cat's all foaming and hissing you can only do so much to protect yourself.

I wanna try something a bit more complicated:

Your character is presented with two choices--they can consume a formula that allows them to transcend their physical limitations and become a being a consciousness living a purely blissful existence, but without individuality. Or, they can refuse the formula and persist with their life as it's been. Or maybe they can do neither and come up with something in between. Write a first sentence that brings us into the scenario and their thought process.

My tear-stained face stares at the bottle heading for my lips, but I realize what I'm doing and slam the bottle on the ground, destroying my only chance for a happy- but strange- life.

Next: A little girl seeing her dad walking towards her from WWII.

Dance as if no one is watching
Love as if you have never loved before
Sing as if no one can hear you
Live as if Heaven is on the Earth

SO Guinea Pigs ROCK!!!!!

He should have returned with the rising at his back, a bag slung over his shoulder, and his arms open and ready to lift me higher than heaven.

Next: A middle aged man faces a firing squad and reminisces about his childhood.

This wasn't how it was supposed to be, yet it was how it turned out; I wish I could have lived the rest of my life, no, I wish I could go back to when I was a young lad - free from all the worries in the world. I wanted to be anywhere in the world, anywhere but here - under the muzzle of a gun.

Next: A man is dead. His death was a violent one. How did it happen? The new Detective Inspector in town is on the case.

"Looks like this case is cut and dry."
Sergeant Terrence shook his head at my comment, turned to me and said, "You're such an asshole."
"What?" I said, putting on a pair of gloves. "I always wanted to be David Caruso."
"Even CSI spared puns from something so grotesque."
I glanced over the sidewalk at the splattered remains of one Mr. Rodriguez. His remains were scattered like a Jackson Polluck painting. I had never thought it was possible to go through a wood chipper all the way. It sounds like something from a cartoon.

COMING UP NEXT: You are the lone survivor of an airplane crash.
Only thieves kiss with their eyes open.

I had no tears for them, not a one. Those whole bodies were not mine, nor the ones up in flames. Each wet trail on my face was carved solely for myself. I was alive.

Next: A fish goes belly up

"My wild gasps for breath were matched only by the even wilder excitment I felt at the sight of the sun, blazing downward with a warm, almost wicked feel of freedom."

Next: A mind goes six feet under.
Luke: "I can't believe it."

Yoda: "That is why you fail."

"You've met a terrible fate, haven't you?"

What the hell does that even mean. "a mind goes six feet under"? like an actual person or what, like a brain? Oh well here I go.

"She wanted to scream out, yell, beg, but as the coffin was slowly lowered into the ground with her in it, her mind still racing at the speed of light; her body dead to the rest of the world, she could only pray that whatever awaited for her in the ground finally killed her mind."

Next: A volleyball player serves the ball right into the next on the match point, causing their team to lose the game.
