I personally believe that euthanasia should be accepted as a way to treat mortal diseases and injuries that may cause excessive pain. Animals and humans should have the right to euthanasia on certain circumstances. If a human consents to a painless death rather than living there short life in agony it should be permitted. In the case of house hold pets, the decision should be appointed to the owners of the animals.

The root of this question lies in your world view. For a person who believes that God created every life as equally valuable, and that life is valuable for its own sake, then euthanasia would be "bad". If God gives and takes life, then no one has a right to take it, in any form.

However, if you believe that life happened by chance, that some lives are more valuable than others, or that a person's life belongs to his or herself, then euthanasia might be a different discussion. If a person owns their own life, then they should be allowed to do with it as they wish. Or if a person is just a mound of tissue and not inherently valuable, it doesn't matter what you do with it.

The question here is not about euthanasia. The question is what is the value of life? Is a life valuable up to the bitter end, or is there a point where it stops being valuable - whether that is when the person can no longer contribute, can no longer live comfortably, or whether there was no value in the first place.

Where does the value lie?
