My real name is not Holden. I took the name from the main character in J.D. Salinger's 'Catcher in the Rye.' Holden Caulfield is a bright young man who never applied himself in school and was so sick of the social nuances he dealt with everyday that he decided to leave them altogether. He runs away from home. I can't help but sympathise and relate to Holden.

Raised by an English professor I like to think I understand the value of language. I'm interested in politics, literature and philosophy. I'd like to write and share it as much as I can. My utmost desire is to write something which impacts society as a whole, for the better.

I hope this thread is not in vain, - I'm so used to seeing sleek, modern websites that are obviously in use - Young Writers Online still appears to be active to an extent. The 'retro' look of this website is what caught my attention and made me stay, but I hope it's not a sign of disuse.

I think regardless of whether or not anything I write here is noticed I'll post it anyways. There is an interesting argument there about whether beauty has any meaning if it goes unnoticed. If a tree falls in the woods and no one hears it, did it make a sound? We've all heard that one before.

Anyways, to anyone who reads this, I am now here and along for the ride.
Thank you for having me.

Hi Holden. Welcome! I'm a bit horrified by YWO being called retro, but I guess it hasn't changed since I joined nearly ten years ago. You remind me of some people I went to high school with, and I hope that you find what you're looking for here. I don't think we're as active as we were back in the day, but people still seem to post once in a while. Enjoy your stay.
